Federal reserve Ba DALLAS, TEXAS n k of D allas 7S222 Circular No. 7^-232 August 30, 197*+ To All Banks in the Eleventh Federal Reserve District: The Food Stamp Program in Texas was implemented Statewide in late 1973* At this Bank the procedures for the handling of food stamps are similar to those in effect for the handling of currency and other valuable matter. The increasing volume of food stamps deposited in this District has created the need for a review of the problems associated with the handling of this expanding volume. One of the significant problems is the excessive number of differences found in deposits of food stamps. It appears that banks are not giving the attention to preparation of these deposits that will insure the accuracy of the deposits. Your cooperation is requested to review your procedures for the preparation and verification of deposits of food stamps to reduce the number of differences that are appearing in deposits being pro cessed by this Bank. The same care and attention should be given to these deposits as is given to deposits of other valuable matter. If assistance is needed in developing adequate procedures, please contact the appropriate officers at this Bank or its Branches at El Paso, Houston and San Antonio. Yours very truly, P. E. Coldwell President This publication was digitized and made available by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas' Historical Library (FedHistory@dal.frb.org)
