ENDORSEMENT OF CHECKS BY DEPOSITARIES

To the War Loan Depositary Bank Addressed:
In our circular letter of September 17, 1943, we advised you that for
the duration of the Third War Loan drive the Treasury Department had
authorized War Loan depositaries which receive checks in payment of sub
scriptions, payable to the order of the Treasurer of the United States, or
payable in substantially similar forms, such as the Secretary of the Treas
ury, United States Treasury, or Treasury Department, to endorse such
checks in the following manner

Loan account on its books:

if the proceeds are credited to the War

“ For credit to War Loan Deposit Account, Federal Reserve Bank of
Dallas, Fiscal Agent of the United States, in payment of United
States Government securities.”
The authority for such endorsement on checks has now been extended
beyond the duration of the Third War Loan drive and will remain in effect
until further notice.
Checks payable to the order of this bank or one of its branches at El
Paso, Houston, or San Antonio, may be accepted by depositaries for the
same purpose and endorsed in a like manner until further notice.
In those instances where depositaries do not enter credits through the
War Loan Account, the checks may be attached to the proper application
or subscription forms and forwarded to this bank or appropriate branch
for handling.

Yours very truly,
R. R, GILBERT
President
