FEDERAL RESERVE BANK O F DALLAS Dallas, Texas, September 15, 1947 To All Banking Institutions in the Eleventh Federal Reserve District: Booker T. Washington commemorative half dollars are coined under authority of Public Law 610, 79th Congress, Chapter 763, 2nd Session, approved August 7, 1946. Under Sections 2 and 3 of the Law the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial, Inc., Rocky Mount, Virginia, has authorized and requested the United States Mints and the several Federal Reserve Banks to issue these coins at par or face value to other banks and trust companies in the United States, upon their order, for sale to the public at a premium. We are informed by the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial, Inc., that the half dollars coined at the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints are to be sold to the public for $1.00, and that those coined at the Denver Mint are to be sold for $1.50. A cut, which was prepared by the Memorial corporation, picturing the front and back of the coin is enclosed. The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and its El Paso, Houston and San Antonio branches are prepared to supply these commemorative coins to banks in this district, upon receipt of their orders accompanied by satisfactory payment at face value in lots of 100 coins ($50), or any multiple thereof, of any one Mint. Any single order for 2,000 coins ($1,000), or any multiple thereof, of any one Mint may be forwarded by this bank (or branch) to the appro priate Mint for shipment by the Mint direct to the ordering bank. All orders for less than 100 coins ($50) should be addressed to the Peoples National Bank, Rocky Mount, Virginia, which bank is acting as depositary for the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial, Inc. Orders for less than 100 coins should not be sent to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas or its El Paso, Houston or San Antonio Branch. All shipments of these coins, except those made by the Mints, will be sent with transpor tation charges “prepaid.” Shipments by the Mints will be sent with charges “collect” but the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial, Inc., will make reimbursement direct to banks upon receipt of advices of the amounts of shipping charges paid. An appropriate advice stating the premium at which the coins are to be sold and the method for payment of the premiums to the Memorial corporation will be enclosed with every shipment made by this bank and its branches. A copy of this advice will be mailed, under separate cover, to the ordering bank, and a copy will also be sent to the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial, Inc., for its records.
