AMENDMENT TO REGULATION P
MINIMUM SECURITY DEVICES AND PROCEDURES
FOR FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS AND STATE MEMBER BANKS

To All State Member Banks
in the Eleventh Federal Reserve District:
The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
announced October 1, 1973? revisions to Regulation P, "Minimum
Security Devices and Procedures for Federal Reserve Banks and
State Member Banks."
The revisions are similar to regulatory changes proposed
for comments in January. They become effective November 1, 1973?
are largely technical in nature, and clarify minimum standards to
be met by State member banks, with the aim of discouraging crimes
against such institutions and assisting in apprehending perpetra
tors of such crimes. Included are definitions of requirements for
vaults as distinguished from safes, protection standards for cash
dispensing machines and a clarification of the rules that safe
deposit boxes be stored in an approved vault or safe.
A copy of the amendment will be forwarded as soon as it
is prepared.
