Hamburger, Ernest, 1890-1980

German politician and historian

Ernest Hamburger was a German-American civil servant and politician. After World War I, he was active in the Social-Democratic Party, for which he performed journalistic and public relations work. In 1926, Hamburger was elected to the Prussian Parliament on the Social-Democratic ticket from the Breslau constituency. Following the Nazi seizure of power in March 1933, Hamburger went to France where he supported himself by freelance journalism. He was forced to flee a second time in 1940, and eventually landed in New York, where he lectured at the New School for Social Research and at the French university in exile, the Ecole Libre des Hautes Etudes. He later became a university lecturer, United Nations employee and political-historical journalist. (Source: Wikipedia)
