STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS

For immediate r e l e a s e
May 8, 1933.

The Federal Reserve Board today announced t h a t the vacancy
a t the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis r e s u l t i n g from the
death of Mr. John R. M i t c h e l l , Chairman of the Board of D i r e c t o r s
and Federal Reserve Agent, w i l l be f i l l e d through the appointment
of Mr. John IT. Peyton as a Class C d i r e c t o r of the F e d e r a l
Reserve Bank of Minneapolis f o r the remainder of Mr. M i t c h e l l ' s
term ending December 31, 1935.

Mr. Peyton " i l l "be designated

chairman of the hoard of d i r e c t o r s and Federal r e s e r v e a g e n t ,
and w i l l assume h i s new d u t i e s on May 15, 1933.

For more than

two years p a s t he has "been serving as Commissioner of Banks of
Minnesota.
