As you were a d v ise d in a telegram of t h is date the conference
to review the p erson n e l c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n s , re fe rre d to in the
B o a rd *s le t t e r B -1 0 6 l o f February 7. 1935* w i l l be h e ld in Chicago
on A p r i l 17i im m ediately fo llo w in g the m eeting of the Board o f
Trustees o f the Retirem ent System o f the F e d e ral Reserve banks.
As most o f the o f f i c e r s d e sign a te d to attend the conference on
p erson n e l c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n s are members o f the Board o f Trustees
o f the Retirem ent System the h o ld in g o f the p erso n n e l c l a s s i f i c a t i o n
p la n conference i n Chicago im m ediately f o llo w in g the m eeting o f

PEBSOMHi CLASSIFICATION PLANS 0? FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS
( E f f e c t iv e January 1, 1931)

1. Under the person n el c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n s approved by the Federal
Beserve Board f o r the F ederal reserve hanks each F ederal reserve
bank i s a u th o rized to h ir e an employee or to promote or demote
an employee w ith ou t f i r s t se c u rin g the F ederal Beserve B o a r d 's
a p p ro val p ro v id e d the s a la r ie s p a id to employees do not exceed
the maximum s a la r y s p e c ifie d in the c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n f o r the
p o s it io n occupied.
2. A l l changes in p erson n e l c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n s whether in t i t l e ,
d e s c r ip t io n s o f d u tie s or q u a lif ic a t io n s , or in s a la r y ranges
should re ce iv e the app roval o f the F ederal Beserve Board before
they become e ffe c t iv e and any request fo r a u th o r ity to make a
change in the p la n sh ould be accompanied w ith a re v ise d page
Form A c o v e rin g the p o s it io n f o r which, the change i s recommended,
3. A l l appointm ents to a p p ra ise d p o s it io n s and a l l changes in s a la r ie s
o f r>ersons occupying a p p ra ise d p o s it io n s must be approved by the
F e d e ral Beserve Board before they become e f f e c t iv e . A p p raise d
p o s it io n s are p o s it io n s to which i t i s im p ra c tic a b le to a s s ig n a
d e f in it e grade as the d u tie s and r e s p o n s i b i l i t i e s thereof are such
th a t the incum bent's value to the bank must n e c e s s a r ily be de­
termined l a r g e ly by h i s a b i l i t y and experience.
Temporary h elp ( f o r a p e rio d not exceeding three months) may be
employed as re q u ire d w ithout se c u rin g the B o a r d 's app ro v al p r o ­
vided the s a la r y p a id conforms to the s a la r y range e s ta b lis h e d
i n the p e rso n n e l c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n fo r s im ila r work elsewhere
in the bank. Temporary employees sh ould be giv e n the c l a s s i f i ­
c a tio n symbol fo r the p o s it io n occupied fo llo w e d by the l e t t e r

5. An employee may be te m p o ra rily a ssig n e d ( f o r a p e rio d not exceeding
s i x months) w ithout re d u ctio n in s a la r y , to a p o s it io n c a l l i n g
f o r a low er maximum s a la r y than he i s re c e iv in g w ithout the
app roval o f the F ederal Beserve Board, Such employees should be
g iv e n the c l a s s i f i c a t i o n symbol fo r the p o s it io n occupied fo llo w e d
by the le t t e r s "TA". ( E f f e c t iv e 7“7~33)
6. In a l l l i s t s o f employees subm itted to the F e d e ral Beserve Board the
employees sh o u ld be l i s t e d under the exact t i t l e s .and in the same
order as the p o s it io n s appear in the p erson n e l c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n
on f i l e w ith the Board.
7. The p e rso n n e l c l a s s i f i c a t i o n p la n sh ou ld cover a l l employees on the
b a n k 's p a y r o ll in c lu d in g those whose s a la r ie s are reim bursed to
the bank in whole or in p a r t from n o tary fe e s, c a f e t e r ia r e c e ip ts ,

etc.
