I t h a s been t h e custom to ask each F e d e r a l r e s e r v e benk by t e l e gram, around the m i d d l e ' o f each month, f o r e l i s t of tlie h o l i d a y s to
be observed d u r i n g the f o l l o w i n g month by the bank and by e a c h o f i t s
branches ( i f a n y ) .

The i n f o r m a t i o n thus o b t a i n e d has been t r a n s m i t t e d

to a l l Fed&ral r e s e r v e banks i n a c i r c u l a r l e t t e r , w i t h a d v i c e as to
willch Federal r e s e r v e banks and branches would be c l o s e d and would not,
t h e r e f o r e , p a r t i c i p a t e in the Gold Settlement Fund and F e d e r a l Reserve
Note c l e a r i n g s .

I t has a l s o been the custom,

i n c o n n e c t i o n w i t h the

c o m p i l a t i o n of the monthly statement of d e b i t s to i n d i v i d u a l accounts,
to o b t a i n s i m i l a r i n f o r m a t i o n from the Federal r e s e f v e a g e n t s a t the
b e g i n n i n g of each y e a r w i t h r e s p e c t to h o l i d a y s observed i n e a c h s t a t e
around the b e g i n n i n g and end o f each month.
In order t h a t the i n f o r m a t i o n f o r the above put-poses may be
s u p p l i e d r e g u l a r l y and w i t h o u t s p e c i a l r e c u e s t ,

i t w i l l b e appreciated

i f h e r e a f t e r you w i l l mail to the Board, not l a t e r than t h e f i f t e e n t h
of each month, a l i s t of a l l h o l i d a y s scheduled to be observed by banks
in y o u r d i s t r i c t i n the f o l l o w i n g calendar month, g i v i n g t h e day, date,

In t h e c a s e of h o l i d a y s to be observed by banks i n Fed-

e r a l r e s e r v e bank or branch c i t i e s , p l e a s e i n d i c a t e i n each c a s e
whether the Federal r e s e r v e bank or branch i t s e l f w i l l be c l o s e d .

Board should be a d v i s e d promptly by t e l e g r a p h of any a d d i t i o n a l h o l i days t h a t e r e d e c l a r e d a f t e r the submission of the o r i g i n a l r e p o r t ,
e x c e p t s p e c i a l or "moratorium" h o l i d a y s proclaimed by c i v i l a u t h o r i t i e s
f o r the purpose of enabling banks to r e o r g a n i z e or o b t a i n d e p o s i t o r s '
w a i v e r and/or deferment agreements, which are to be r e p o r t e d by Federal
r e s e r v e a g e n t s i n accordance ^ i t h the p r o v i s i o n s of the s i x t h p a r a graph of our l e t t e r of January 19, 1933•
