Dear S i r : The Secret Service Division of the Treasury Department has requested t h a t t h e a t t e n t i o n of t h e Federal r e s e r v e banks he again d i r e c t e d to i t s c i r c u l a r l e t t e r No. 626, i s s u e d under d a t e of June 8, 1929, d e s c r i b i n g c o u n t e r f e i t $100 Federal r e s e r v e n o t e s of t h e large size. The Secret Service D i v i s i o n makes t h i s r e q u e s t "because of t h e r e c e n t appearance of a considerable number of t h e c o u n t e r f e i t s described i n t h e c i r c u l a r . I t s t a t e s , however, t h a t the notes which have come t o i t s a t t e n t i o n a r e on several Federal r e s e r v e banks, i n a d d i t i o n to t h e Federal Reserve Banks of New York and P h i l a d e l p h i a , mentioned i n t h e c i r c u l a r , and i t i s q u i t e p o s s i b l e t h a t n o t e s on a l l of t h e Federal r e s e r v e banks a r e now being c i r c u l a t e d . The Board i s advised t h a t l o c a l r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s of t h e Secret Service D i v i s i o n w i l l c a l l on the v a r i o u s F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks f o r the purpose of showing t h e banks a specimen of t h e c o u n t e r f e i t s r e f e r r e d t o and e x p l a i n i n g how t h e n o t e s may be d e t e c t e d .
