This is with furthor refercnco to your letter of April 2..4, 1942, which asked about the classification of lamp shades and fluorescent lights for pu:rpoi.:3es of Regulation 17. The Board agrees with your view that lamp shades sold separately al'e not subject to ths rt:gulation. As you suggest, shades should. be considered re;1laeements or repair parts which are discussed in ruling r·-6;2. The r:::visio:1 of the regulation has no effect u;:Jon th~ statuf-> of shades. Yom· letter also asked about fluorescent lights. You will note that t}Ie revised regulation has added a new classification, Grou1} A-22, "lighting fixt:u·es dCJsigned for household use". Thio classification includes fluore[~cent lightin~ equipment i f it is of houserwld design. J'Jic.rr,y fllwrescent lighting fixtures of hoasehold design arc used both in hornes and. commercial establishr:1ents and these are sub, iect to the regulation no matter where tD.ey may be installed. It ts only those f:i.xtures t:wt are designed sol~Jly fo:r· use iu comn,er~ial e:c.tablish.:nent8 tnat are beyond the scope of the regulation. ifer->J truly yours, (Signed) Chester Morrill Chester Morrill, Secretary.
