Dear Sir:There js enclosed for your information and attention
copy of ~ resolution adopted by the Federal Reserve Board at a
meeting held on December 18, 1918, levying an assessment upon
the several Federal Reserve Banks of an amount equal to tv;Q
hundred ninety-six thous~ndths of cne ~er cent ( -00296) of the
total paid-in cap:tal stock and surplus of such banks to defray
the aa~1natsd genural exrenses of the Federal Reserve Board
from J~nusry 1, to June ZG, 1919. This assessment docs not include the cost of engraving and printing Federal Reserve notes.

There is also inclosed a statement showing the basis
upon v;hich the assessment is levied.
Your speciul attention is called to the fact that the
resolution requires the assessment to be made upon the paid-in
capital and surplus as distinguished from the total capital
stock and surplus, as has been the pr~ctice heretofore.
The assessment should be conputed upon your paid-in
and surplus as of close of business December 31. 1918;
that is, upon ca. pi tal ps.id-in as shov.n by books on that date i

un~ deposit one-half of the amount of your assessment in the
General account, Treasurer, U. s., on your books on Januu.ry l,
1919, and one-half on March 1, 1919, in e<..:.ch instc...nce issuing
a cjD on Form 1, National Banks, for credit of "Salaries and
Expmses, Federal Reserve Board, Special FUnd," assessment for
general expenses.
