Mr. M. S. Eccles, Governor
Board of Governors of the
Federal Reserve System
Washington, D. G.
Dear Governor Eccles:
On the basis of the interview you very kindly gave to
a reporter for the Kansas City Star when you were here a
couple of weeks ago, the cartoonist for the Star, Mr. S. J.
Ray, later drew what seemed to us an excellent cartoon
which told without words the substance of what you had
given in your interview.
Because the cartoon was so good, I asked the Star if
I might have the original with the thought that you might
like to receive it, and it is with pleasure that I hand it
to you herewith along with a copy of the paper in which it
appeared. The drawing is good in every respect except that
I think the cartoonist might have done a little better in
creating the driver to more closely resemble you.
People around here are still talking about the excel
lent address you made following the dinner that evening at
the Kansas City Club and they all feel you are doing a tre
mendous public service in pointing out the dangers in the
international situation to groups of this kind. You have a
lot of friends and admirers in Kansas City which certainly
was proved by the manner in which those invited turned out
to hear you.
With the very best wishes and an expression of the hope
that you will come back again soon.

Dear Mr. Koppang:
As I have not been back very long from my trip to
the V«est I am behind in my correspondence and I apologize

16 and the excellent cartoon from the Star. On my behalf,
I hope that when you have an opportunity to do so you will
convey my thanks to Mr. Kay as well.
It is always encouraging to know, at least from
one's friends, that a given talk was well received. I
appreciate your very kind comment.
V.ith every good wish, I am
Sincerely yours,
