January H , 1948

Dear Marriner:
The annual joint meeting of our
directors and the Baltimore Branch directors
will be held in Baltimore Wednesday, February 11.
Following the meeting, which has been called for
9:30 a.m. at the Branch building, there will be
a luncheon at the Maryland Club to which the
senior officers of the Baltimore Clearing House
banks will be invited.
On Tuesday, February 10, at 6 p.m.,
Mr. Charles P. McCormick, President of McCormick &
Company, Incorporated, of Baltimore, and Deputy
Chairman of this bank, will give an informal
cocktail party and dinner at "Ye Olde McCormick
Tea House," McCormick Building, Light and Barre
Streets, in honor of Mr. Robert Lassiter, who re
tired as Chairman of the Board on December 31, 194-6,
after having served twenty-four years as Class "C"
director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
Mr. McCormick and our other directors
would like very much to have you with us on all of
these occasions, or as many of them as will fit in
with your plans. Do write me that you will be on
hand. A prompt answer would be helpful.
Sincerely yours,

I have just received a note from Hugh Leaoh expressing
his appreciation of the attendance from Washington at the Baltimore
meetings. He said that the attendance of the Board members was a
major factor in making the meetings suocessfVil and was helpful from
the standpoint of oreating a better understanding among the group.
He added that in view of the absenoe of Director Johnson, he wished
me to inform you regarding the contents of a letter which he had re
ceived under date of February 11 from Mr. Johnson. The pertinent
portico of Mr. Johnson's letter was as followst
"We experienced in Wilmington, beginning on last
Sunday, the worse sleet and ioe storm in the history
of the City. Although I had expected to leave here
Monday night, having bought my transportation to Bal
timore and return, it was impossible for me to get
out of the City. All transportation facilities broke
down, the City was without light, heat or telephone
servioe up until yesterday and although I have attempted
to contact you by long distanoe telephone and telegraph,
it was impossible for me to do so since all communications
to the outside world have been cut off since Monday.*

Dear Buds
Because of ay concentration an what cm
earth to talk about at the Maryland Club lunohean,
I neglected to express to you the deep apprecia
tion I felt for your generous and gracious intro
duction.
X Just wanted to send you this word of
sincere thanks for your kindness and encourage
ment* the meetings were unusually interesting
and stimulating - the hospitality at Charlie
MoCormiok's and at the Club, superb. Those of
us who were privileged to enjoy it owe you a
special debt of gratitude.
Sincerely yours.
