l o u r congratulatory message of November
t h i r t e e n t h i s deeply appreciated.
I t was a far-reaching v i c t o r y , i n view of the
f a c t t h a t I l l i n o i s i s normally considered a Republican
s t a t e and was d e f i n i t e l y claimed by the Republicans. My
p l u r a l i t y was 214*000 over my opponent, which was
approximately 95*000 votes more than our great President
received. There was never a doubt about I l l i n o i s a f t e r
President Roosevelt came t o Chicago. That meeting was
the g r e a t e s t t r i b u t e ever paid t o a l i v i n g man i n the
h i s t o r y of I l l i n o i s .
