The President
The White House
Washington, H.C.
My dear Mr. President:
Further to our conversation on Friday, with reference to
organization of the Council of Economic Advisors, and since you
were kind enough to allow me to make some suggestions, I should like
to submit for your consideration the name of John Davidson Clark, of
Lincoln, Nebraska*
While I do not know Mr, Clark personally, objective inquiry
has brought his name to my attention. It seems that he might meet
the specifications for the contemplated assignment.
At the suggestion of Governor Evans, of the Federal Reserve
System, I have procured his record, which I attach hereto for your
information. That this record is iarpressive is obvious.
While I have not talked to Senator O'Mahoney, it is my understanding that Mr. Clark is a close personal friend. You might care,
therefore, to talk to the Senator about him.
This suggestion is made with no intention to replace the
two names which I gave to you on Friday* On the- other hand, it is my
thought that you will have advantage in reviewing the broadest possible
field of prospects in the course of this selection.

Cordially yours,

J. R. Parten
Enclosure
