Davis just prior to the time he went to Washington, he advised me that you had suggested my name as his successor as Chairman of the War Finance Committee of the Eighth Federal Reserve District. Your thoughtfulness and generosity in this matter are very much appreciated. I have endeavored to take up where Mr. Davis left off, and have in the intervening period cooperated with others in the district in an effort to procure subscriptions for the purchase of Government securities. The quota for the Eighth District is $250,000,000, including credits received by us from other districts and excluding credits received by us for other districts. We now have total subscriptions (cash) $275?000,000. If there is something we can do for you in this district, it will be a pleasure to hear from you any time.
