Mr* Mariner S* Eccles
Governor of Reserve Board
Washington, D* C*
Dear Mr* Eccles:
The other day I happened totoein a group
where one memtoer made the remark that President
Roosevelt was likely to have trouble in his own
political family in trying to put over some of
his measures* I at once asked who the speaker
had reference to# He said "Mariner S. Eccles,"
and made the statement that you were a ntoig
interest" man at heart and that while you were
pretending to work in the interest of the people,
he questioned your motives*
I at once took up your defense and asked
him upon what ground he "based his assertion,
tout he could give me none* Then I told him that
he had bettertoecareful about making such a
statement without evidence*
I am now addressing audiences through the
State on progressive measures and I thought I
would like to tell*you of this so that you
could put the information into my hands to refute it, if such a statement is again made*

I will toe pleased to hear from you*
Sincerely yours,

Hetoer
