October 22,

Mr, Marriner S, Eccles
Member

Federal Reserve Board
Washington, D.C#
Dear Mr. Eccles:
The members of the United Electrical, %dio and Machine Workers, as
all other workers, today are facing increasingly serious economic
difficulties. At the same time as the workers' economic hardships
grow, prices are continuing to soar and corporation profits are breaking all previous records.

c

To express our members concern over this situation, the UE has been
circulating the attached petition in the factories where our members
work, and are approaching 150,000 signatures as this letter is written.
On Thursday and Friday, November 2-3, 195>O, a representative delegation of UE members is coming to Washington to present these petitions
to the White House. The delegation also hopes to present its views
on economic policies affecting wages, prices, housing, rent, taxes
and profiteering to the Government agencies and officials directly
concerned with these matters.
Accordingly, on behalf of these UE workers, I am requesting an appointment for a representative group from our delegation with you and such
members of your staff as you deem appropriate at a time convenient to
you Thursday afternoon, November 2, or Friday, November 3« We are particularly interested in seeing you in view of your public announcement
on installment credit regulations in force and in prospect, and
specially the emphasis you have placed upon the need for closing tax
loopholes which now exist. Your cooperation in arranging such an
appointment would be very greatly appreciated by our entire UE membership.
I look forward to hearing from you as to the most convenient arrangement for our requested aDpointment.
