ROBERT F. KENNEDY NEW YORK , D.C. 2O51O October 30, 1967 Marriner S# Eccles, Chairman of the Board Utah Construction & Mining Co# Salt Lake City, Utah Dear Mr. Eccles: Enclosed are copies of two amendments which I introduced the other day to the omnibus social security and welfare bill now pending in the Finance Committee, as well as my remarks in introducing them. If you support these amendments, I think it would be helpful if you were to communicate that support to other Senators and especially to the Chairman and Members of the Senate Finance Committee; it would also be helpful if you could get others to do so as well. We would be glad to provide you with more copies of the enclosed materials if you need them. Peter Edelman of my staff is available to discuss any questions that you may have and to provide you with any materials you need. I believe both of these amendments are extremely important, the first to provide more adequate retirement benefits under a sound system of financing, the second to neutralize the restrictive actions of the House on welfare and to start moving toward badly needed welfare reform. Whatever you can do on these amendments would therefore be most constructive. Sincerely, Robert F# Kenn Enclosures
