My dear Mr* Socles:
In order to make adequate preparation for this
country's effective participation in the solution
of the vast and complicated problems of international
relations which will confront us and the world after
the final defeat of the forces of aggression, there
have been created in the Department of State, by
direction of the President, several committees in
the inter-related fields of political and economic
reconstruction and of general security. These committees are charged with the conduct of the necessary
studies and with the preparation of recommendations
to be submitted to the President* One of these committees is a Committee on Ppst-War Foreign Economic
Policy.
I take pleasure in inviting you to become a
member of this Committee on Post-War Foreign Economic Policy* I hope that you will find it possible
to undertake this important responsibility and to
attend a meeting of the committee in my office at
11 o'clock a.m*, Friday, April 9, 1943*

5 advising me* in confidence, of the creation in the
Department of State, by direction of the President, of
several committees in the interrelated fields of political and economic reconstruction and of general
security, and inviting mo to become a member of the
Committee on Post-War Foreign Economic Policy.
1 am glad to accept membership on this committee, and in accordance with your letter I shall attend the meeting of the coismittee to be held in your
office at eleven o*clock on Friday morning, April 9*
