DENISON UNI VERSI TY FOUNDED 18S1 G R A N V IL L E , O H I O d epartm en t of February 28, 1949 ECONOMICS Dear Mr. Ecclesi During the past thirteen years I have been bringing small groups of Denison senior majors in economics to Washington during the Spring recess to give them an opportunity to study and observe at first hand the economic funotions of the Federal government. Conferences have been arranged with Senators and Representatives, Justices of the Supreme Court, and officials of the Bxeoutive branch of the government. Members of the group prepare very carefully for these meetings and have specific questions "which they wish to ask of the officials with wham it is their privilege to oonfer. Conferences are requested only with officials with whom members of the group wish to talk. This year there are eight young men and two young women in the party, all of whom are especially conoemed with the problem of inflation. They have followed your public statements in recent months and would welcome an opportunity to talk with you. We shall be in Washington from Saturday noon, March 26 to Saturday noon, April 2. If you find it possible to set aside a half hour or more for these young people during that period you may wish to suggest a definite appointment now, or if you prefer we can leave the arrangements of definite date and hour to be determined by telephone after we reach Washington. You may recall spending an hour with a Denison group in 1941* Those of us who had the privilege of talking with you at that time remember the occasion vividly. It will be a real pleasure to look forward to meeting you again. Cordially yours, \y Lei and J. \fibrdin Chairman, Department of Economics The Homorable Marriner S.
