AIR MAIL
Mr. Marriner S. Eccles
C/0 Hotel Ben Lomond
Ogden, Utah
Dear Marriner;
When your letter of April 2 was received this morning,
I promptly talked with our mutual good friend, Mr. W. A.
Philpott, Jr., Secretary of the Texas Bankers Associa
tion, and what I am about to say here represents our
joint views.
We are pleased no end that you plan to address the 67th
Annual Convention of the Texas Bankers Association in
Dallas on May 14 or 15. Mr. Philpott can fit you in the
program either day, but prefers to have you address the
convention on Monday afternoon, May 14. If you find it
necessary to speak on the 15th, the program will be ad
justed to suit your convenience. The programs go to
press approximately one month in advance of the date of
the convention and, if you will please wire Mr. Philpott
as soon as you return to Washington on the 12th, that
will be ample time for him to arrange the program.
As you doubtless know, American Airlines operate a onestop (Memphis) flight from Dallas to Washington, leaving
here at 4:35 p.m. and arriving in Washington at 10:25 p.m.
(EST).
Sunday evening, May 13, will be a general get-together
for cocktails, dinner and the like and, if you could ar
rive in Dallas sometime Sunday, we should like very much

for you to attend these Sunday evening parties, where
you could visit informally with many of your friends
of the Southwest. Furthermore, if you will let Mr.
Philpott or me know of your arrival time, we shall
have hotel space waiting for you at the Baker or the
Adolphus.
Be assured of my genuine appreciation for your accept
ance of this engagement, as well as my warm personal
regards*

CC— Mr. W. A. Philpott, Jr., Secretary
Texas Bankers Association
Dallas National Bank Bldg*
Dallas, Texas

April 13, 1951.

Dear DeWitt:
I am very glad I accepted the invitation to address the
Texas Bankers Association — how could a fellow refuse when
such cordial and flattering letters, indicating enthusiasm for
one's acceptance, are received from such important and influen
tial men as you, Handle Gilbert and William Philpottl
After giving consideration to letters from you three
gentlemen, I have decided to leave Washington on the American
Airlines flight #59 on Sunday morning (May 13th) at 9*25 a.m.,
arriving in Dallas at 1:50 p.m. — this will give me time to
get to the hotel, freshen-up, and then attend your- general
get-together for cocktails, dinner and. informally visiting.
I will be glad to address the Monday afternoon meeting
of the Bankers. As I must be in Washington on the morning of
Tuesday, May 15th, it will be necessary for me to leave Dallas
on the American Airlines flight #114 on Monday at 4:35 p.m. and
I am arranging my plane reservations accordingly. (I understand
that because of the change to daylight savings time after April
29 there may be some changes in plane schedules for May, so that
actual time of arrival and departure will have to be determined
later).
I want you and other members of the Texas Bankers Asso
ciation to know that I greatly appreciate this privilege of
addressing them at their annual convention.
With kindest regards,

Sincerely yours,

M. S. Eccles.

Mr. DeWitt Ray, President,
National City Bank of Dallas,
Dallas, Texas.
