Eccles Federal Reserve System Washington, D. C. Dear Marriner: A copy of the talk which you made at The Execu tives’ Club luncheon in Chicago, March 2, 1951» has just come to my attention. I am in complete agreement with the viewpoints you express and I believe that if these abstruse mat ters could be presented to the general public in a form in which the essential principles, at least, would be understood, the public generally would support your position. Even without this, I am pleased with the recent developments indicating that your Board is making some headway in its efforts to function along the lines for which it was originally created. With all best wishes, I am Sincerely yours, IAWsCA May 1951. Dear Lingan: I am sorry to be so long in acknowledging your very thoughtful letter of March 23* I was in the West when it arrived at my office and I did not return to Washington until the middle of April. I am only now getting caught up with the work and correspondence which accumulated while I was away. I am pleased that you took the time to read the address 1 made before The Executives’ Club of Chicago on March 2, and are in complete agreement with the viewpoints I expressed. It is most encouraging to me to have a person, who is as. busy, able and successful as you, take the time to write a letter of approval to me. With kind personal regards, Sincerely yours, M. S. Eccles. Mr. Lingan A. Warren, Safeway Stores, Incorporated, P. 0. Box 660, 4th and Jackson Streets, Oakland U> California. VEsdls
