FED ER AL R E SE R V E BANK
OF D ALLAS
R . R . G IL B E R T
P R E S ID E N T

October lit, 191*9

Mr. Marriner S. Eccles
Board of Governors of the
Federal Reserve System
Washington, D. C.
Dear Governor Eccles:
A day or two ago I mailed you a photograph that was taken at
the luncheon in the bank 'when you were here recently. The next issue
of the bank's magazine, ITEMS, is scheduled to come off the press on
November 1, and I will send you a copy of it, since it mil contain an
article referring to your visit and a reproduction of the photograph
mentioned above*
The day after you left Dallas I wrote Ellison Harding and
asked him to send me clippings from the Fort Worth papers referring to
your speech at the I.P.A.A. dinner and the statement you made later
that evening to the local newspaper reporters. He replied promptly,
stating that he had already mailed them to you, so I assume that you
received them several days ago.
All of us thoroughly enjoyed your visit and the talk you made
at the luncheon we arranged in your honor. I hope that we did not impose
on your good nature too much by asking you to speak to the group at the
luncheon, and regret that you could not have spent more time with us.
Edgar Flippen and Fred Florence have both mentioned our visits in their
offices, and how much they appreciated our calls. It is too bad that time
would not permit us to visit the officers of some of the other Dallas
banks while you were here, but maybe you will come back to see us real
soon and we can visit them at that time.

With cordial regards and all good wishes, I am,
Sincerely yours,

R. R. Gilbert
President

November 18, 1949*

Mr. R. R. Gilbert, President,
federal Reserve Bank of Dallas,
Dallas 13, Texas.
Dear Randle:
Upon my return to Washington a few days ago, after
an absence of about five weeks, I found your letter of October
14 , and the photograph mentioned therein had been received in
my office. I want to express my deep appreciation and to thank
you for the luncheon you arranged in my honor. I was glad to
have the opportunity to meet and visit with the bankers and
businessmen attending the luncheon. I was pleased that they
were interested in having me talk to them.
It was thoughtful of you to send me the photograph
taken at the luncheon. It is an excellent picture and I appreĀ
ciate having it to add^ to my collection.
I enjoyed my visit in Dallas very much and I want
to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to you for
the time, attention and courtesies extended to me.
with kindest personal regards,
Sincerely yours,

M. S. Eccles.
