W O R K S PR O G R E SS A D M IN IS T R A T IO N
STATE OF WASHINGTON

November 16, 1939

Hon, Marriner S. Eccles
Chairman, Board of Governors
Federal Reserve System
Washington, D. C.

Dear Sir:
I am •writing to learn whether you could
supply me with one or more copies of the address which
you delivered at St. Louis on November 9« TRhile your
audience at this occasion probably consisted mainly of
bankers and business men, you may be interested to
know that your analysis of present economic needs in
the United States correspondcvery closely with the
conclusions arrived at by YiPA workers and trade union
ists here in the State of Washington. As one of our
students stated in a TSPA class: "that man Eccles has
a lot of common sense fcr a banker."
We have about forty teachers here in the
State of Washington conducting classes in workers*
education under my general supervision, and they are
keenly interested in sueh subjects as those which you
have been discussing. Incidentally, we would greatly
appreciate it if sometime you would take occasion to
deliver an address over the radio explaining in simple
terms so that the average wording man can understand
it just how the Federal Peserve banking system is set
up, who controls it and how it is related ‘•■o the bank
ing and financial apparatus of the Nation,
Very truly yours,
