Box 452. Wapato, Wash. Nov. 10th, 1939. Marriner S. Iccles Chairman of Federal Reserve Board, Washington, D.C. Dear % . Eccles In looking at our daily paper, The Yakima Herald, I find what you think of adding more taxes on the small individuals and the lagge corporations, as you told at the observance of the SttLouis anniv ersary of the Federal Reserve.Bank. Let me first explain who 1 am, at all I presume you would never have remembered me, But 1 worked for Miss Kay and % . deWit at Jackson Hole Wyoming for five years at the Bluebird Cafe, and in that time I saved enough to try to go in business for myself, which 1 did a year ago last month. 1 have served you and your brothers George and Spence lots of times, I also worked at the Sear-Paw Dude Ranch, at the time you entertained about 10 guests there. Now do recall met I wish that I just had a portion of the money that you and some of your National -Employees are spending for recreation on your vacations, then my Social Security, Excise ^ax, ^inployment ^ax, Business ^ax, Industrial Insurance ^ax, wouldn't be so hard to pay, It must be so easy for a man who has plenty to spend for everything he wants to get up and say the things like they have printed in the paper that you said, when they really mean just words to you and where you have never known the struggle of depriving yourself of anything to pay the taxes, high rent, lights, water, and wages. When I say that it comes easy to you, I mean that you are paid a very good salary, You must , when one lives at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. an<j y0u can just tell your secretary to write a check to pay the rent, etc. I went in debt for about #1S?(56 #1200 dollars and have got part of this paid back, but in order to do it I work from 7am till 10 or later every evening, I help with the cooking do all my cleaning and all my own waitress work. Remember the Ilk Steaks I cooked for you and your friend the day you left Jackson, Not bad were they?? But I am writting this just to remind you that please when you make some of these speeches about the country, bear in mind that t he small businesses are taxed to death, now and do try to go easy on them. I have thought of Your gang, as well as the Maytag’s and so many others of my friends that I haven't seen now for two years, But Mrs. Gill, her husband has the Log Cabin Club, in Jackson, sends me the papers and I see where they have all been back this past summer. I shall cut the clipping from my paper and mail with this to you. With the best and Kindest Wishes This article is protected by copyright and has been removed.
