Eccles Federal Reserve Board Washington, D. C. My dear Marriner: I very much appreciate your sending me the stenographic transcript of your talk before the Bankers Association meeting. I have read it with very great interest. I have two main impressions about its First, that it is a very strong statement about most important mat ters; and, second, that there is in it all the way through the frank sort of man-to-man attitude which is much to be desired and admired. If there were more of such straightforward, friendly frankness in the analysis of conditions and exposition of purposes and accomplish ment, we would, I think, have much less of suspicion and misunderstand ing and fear than exists at the present time. I was particularly regretful of the situation that brought about what looked like a slap at you in the election of one of the officers. It’s too bad that the work of an intelligent and industrious public official, and the activities of a great association, should be com plicated ty the personal venom of one man.
