Dear Mr. Ployhaus:
This i s t o acKnowiedge your l e t t e r of March
5 in regard t o r i s i n g p r i c e s of farm land. In speaking of t h i s and suggesting a s p e c i a l wartime c a p i t a l
gains tax when questioned on t h i s suoject oy members
of a benate committee the other day, I was using
f i g u r e s f o r the country generally. I understand that
there are exceptions t o the general rule and your community appears t o be one of them, though f o r what
reason 1 am at a l o s s t o understand in view of what
you say. I f you are successful in s e l l i n g trie estate
t o which you r e f e r , i t would not of course be a f f e c t e d
by my suggestion in regard to the c a p i t a l gains t a x .
I t occurred t o me you might care t o see the
enclosed statement which I gave out t o explain the
reasons why I favor t h i s expedient as a p r o t e c t i v e
measure a gainst i n f l a t i o n a r y f o r c e s .
