November 19, 1935 Mr. Marriner S. Socles, Care of federal Reserve Board, Washington, D. G. Dear Sir: In a speach which you recently made to bankers, perhaps at their recent convention in New Orleans, the news papers are quoting you as having made remarks of the follow ing tenor. "If you want the goverment to get out (of Banking), you get in. " Also that you urgejl"bankers to extend ’’not the type of credit you prefer to extend, 90 days to 6 months, but the kind there is a demand for.” If you addressed the Bankers at their recent New Orleans, convention these remarks no doubt were made in such speech. If not, you can probably identify the speech, as these remarks are receiving publicity just now. The object of this letter is to request that you kindly oblige by mailing me complete copy of your speech in which your remarks of the fore^going tenor were made, as I would like to see all that you said on that subject. The newspaper comments are too brief, and I will appreciate your complete speach, which kindly mail to my address given below, and accept my thanks for same in advance. Very truly yours, Address: Robert A. Steps, 340 N. Kartel Avenue, ios Angeles, California
