O FFICE O F THE VICE P R ESID EN T

Mr. Marriner S. Eccles,
Board of Governors,
Federal Reserve System,
Washington, D. C.
Dear Marriner:
I have just read your talk before The Executives'
Club in Chicago, on March 2, which your office was kind
enough to send me. I thought you did a fine job and I
am in hearty accord with what you had to say.
From time to time, I hear rumors of your resigna
tion from the Board of Governors and I am always delighted
when they do not prove to be true. At a time like this,
we need men of your courage and integrity in Washington
more than ever.
I hope that I will be in the East before too long
and will have a chance to see you in Washington.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely,

Henry H. Edmiston,
Vice President.

March 13, 1951.

Mr. Henry H. Edmiston,
Vice President,
Kansas City Life Insurance Company,
Kansas City, Missouri.
Dear Henry:
It was thoughtful of you to write me about my
speech before the Executives* Club of Chicago on March 2.
I am glad to know that you approved of what I had to say
in the press release which my office mailed to you. However,
in addressing the group I deviated from the context of the
press release and spoke extemporaneously on the world situa
tion and made the release a part of it only through a mention
of it, saying that copies were available to those who wished
to have them. I appreciate your well wishing and your express
ing a hope that I will stay on in Washington. I am not making
any comments either one way or the other at this time.
I hope all is going well with you, Helen, and your
youngsters, and that you are enjoying your work with the Kansas
City Life Insurance Company.
With kindest personal regards,
Sincerely yours,

M. S. Eccles.
