March 15, 1950.

Mr. Marriner S. Eccles,
c/o Board of Governors of the
Federal Reserve System,
Washington 25, D. C.
Dear Governor Eccles:
Personally, and in behalf of the Atlanta lawyers
Club, let me again thank you for giving us so much of your
time and such an excellent speech.
You made a big hit
here, and you certainly gave us a lot to think about.
There was no opportunity to discuss vith you the
matter of your expenses.
In view of the fact that you
came here for the purpose of attending our Board meeting,
I wondered if your expenses would be paid by the Board of
Governors, or whether they would be charged to you as
personal expenses.
If they were chargeable to you per
sonally, please send me the bill.
Just after you left my house Mr. A1 Williams
joined us, and we wished that you had stayed on because
things really picked up.
Again with many thanks, and personal regards,
I am
Cordially yours.

March 17, 1950

Dear Mr. Patterson:
I appreciate your letter of March 15
thanking me for addressing the Atlanta Lawyers
Club and attending the Bank's Board meeting. I
am glad to know that my speech made a “big hit"
and gave those attending something to think about.
I am always anxious to know what the reactions of
others are to my views expressed in speeches, and
I am glad to know that the one I made to the Atlanta
Lawyers Club proved to be interesting and gave them
something to think about.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Atlanta
and wish to express my appreciation for the excel
lent handling of the arragnements. I greatly enjoyed
the evening at your home and am sorry it was not pos
sible for me to stay later than I did.
Regarding the expenses incurred by me the
Board paid them and, therefore, it will not be nec
essary for your Bank to cover them.
with kind personal regards,
Sincerely yours,

M. o. Iccles.

Mr. Harold T. Patterson,
General Counsel,
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta,
Atlanta, Georgia.
