BO ARD OF G O V E R N O R S OF TH E FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM W A S H IN G T O N R . M. E V A N S M EM BER OF THE BOARD November 1, 194-8 Mr. Marriner S. Eecles, e/o Ben Lomond Hotel, Ogden, Utah. Dear Marriner: Attached is a copy of a letter from Kirk Fox, which I thought you might be interested in reading. Thurma and I thoroughly enjoyed the football game yesterday. The day was pleasant and the score was decidedly favorable from a Washington standpoint. With best wishes Attachment DES MOINES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Des Moines 7, Iowa October 28, 194-8 Mr. R. M. Evans Federal Reserve Bank Washington, D. C. Dear Spike: Yesterday Mr. Eccles gave an enlightening talk before the bankers of Iowa on United States fiscal policy. It was one of those very meaty speeches that take time for digestion, However, the early reactions are favorable. Walking home last evening from the bus with our neighbor, Mr. Allen, we disĀ cussed the issues thoroughly. Supported by Herb Horton and Harold Brenton, I bore down on Mr. Eccles with a personal invitation to return in February to a more general Iowa and Mid-West audience such as we would offer him in the National Farm Institute. I hope, with the urging of our banker friends, we may have made a strong impression. Iowa scenery is terrific right now. To some people, a field of corn that promises around 100 bushels to the acre is scenery enough. I'll grant it is something to look at, but I do like the fall coloring of the leaves, which is beyond adequate description. With all good wishes, I am Sincerely, (signed) Kirk Fox Chairman National Farm Institute
