OFFI CE OF T H E PRESI DENT

January 13, 194-8

Dear Mr. Eccles:
George Doying, the head of our Washington Bureau, has told
me that you have accepted our invitation to meet with the
editors of the McGraw-Hill magazines during their conference
in Washington, January 21-22. May I express my own apprec
iation, as well as that of the editors, for your willingness
to meet with us.
As you undoubtedly know, we hold these editorial conferences
in order to keep ourselves informed on the current thinking of
key people in the federal government. For that reason nothing
which is said at our meetings is ever quoted or attributed to
our guests and you may feel free to speak both frankly and in
formally. We look forward to a most instructive meeting with
you.
I understand that our Washington staff has already outlined
for you soae of the subjects which we would like to hear dis
cussed. If there is any further assistance which we can give
you in connection with this meeting, will you please let
Mr. Doying know?

Mr. Marriner S. Eccles
Chairman, Board of Governors
