March 1, 19U5Mr. Thomas W. Hanna,
800 West Marquette Avenue,
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dear Mr*

Hanna:

This i s to acknowledge your l e t t e r of February
2h, and while I would not be i n accord with a good many
of your conclusions, I have always been as strongly opposed as you appear to be to wasteful and extravagant use
of public funds, and t h i s goes f o r wartime as w e l l .
"While you are b i t t e r about Government in this
country, I might remind you that so f a r as taxation i s
concerned, high as our rates are in comparison with the
past, they are s t i l l considerably tinder those in England,
Canada, and other democratic countries. With regard to
the special wartime capital gains tax which 1 suggested
when questioned by members of the Senate Banking and Currency Committee the other day, i t would not apply, of
course, t o the sale of your property or any other capital
assets purchased prior to the e f f e c t i v e date of the
special tax.
Sincerely yours.

M. S. Ecoles,
Chairman.
