Dear Mr. Eccles:
I am writing to extend a most cordial Invitation to
you to be an Honor Quest at the Chamber's Annual Meeting Dinner
in the Ballroom of the Willard Hotel, Washington, the evening
of Thursday, May the first.
The Dinner is planned as the featured event of a fourday convention, April 28 - May 1, which will have a program in
keeping with the broad national interests of these times. As
Honor Guests at our head table at the Dinner we are inviting a
distinguished group of leaders in business, government, and other
walks of life, whom we shall be proud to present to the large
number of men and women attending. Delegates to the meeting are
coming from all parts of the country and are representative of
all fields of American business.
With Washington one of the chief centers of world atten
tion, and the business aspects of national defense so much in the
minds of all, this forward-looking meeting promises to be a memo
rable one. I hope you will be able to attend, and particularly
that we may have your early acceptance of this invitation to the
Dinner.

Dear Mr. O'Connor:
I want to express my appreciation for
your courtesy and consideration in arranging for Mrs*
Eccles and my brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. George
■Eccles, to attend the annual dinner meeting of the
United States Chamber of Commerce.
My secretary tells me that your office
advised her that they were to ■e the guests of Mr.
Kemper, your President, and that therefore no charge
would be made for the tickets. I am writing Mr. Kemper
today, expressing my gratitude. However, I rxjuld like
to say that in requesting permission for them to
attend, I did so fully with the intention of paying
for their tickets. It was only because Mr* and Mrs.
George Eccles were visiting with us in Washington at
the time that I took the liberty of taking the matter
up with you.
We all had a most interesting and en
joyable evening.
With kindest regards,
Sincerely,

VE cm
