Hon. Marriner S. Eccles,
Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System,
Washington, D. C.
My dear Mr. Eccles:
As a former member of the Board
of the Houston, Texas,

Branch, I a m h a ppy to receive,

now and then, copies of speeches made by members of
your Board. I just read, with great interest and
pleasure, the very fine address which y ou delievered
before the graduating class at Logan, Utah, on June
4th, and it impressed me so much that I would like to
send copies to my two sons who are away from home, one
of them with the Navy in Korea. It was a wonderful talk
for young men which I a m sure must h a v e made a great
impression. Our boys, nowadays, need to hear more about
Ideals and less about privileges and security. If they
are still available, I would greatly appreciate it if
y o u w ould h ave two or three copies of the speech sent
to me.
Sincerely yours,

June 13, 1951.

Dear Mr. Renfert:
Your letter of June 8 is very gratifying to
me. It is encouraging to have your expression of approval
and appreciation of my address to the graudating class of
the Utah State Agricultural College on June 4*
I felt it a great privilege to be invited to
speak to the graduates on the important event of success
fully completing their college studies and entering upon
a new phase of life where it would be necessary for them
to put their knowledge to practical use. It was the first
time I had addressed young men and women graduating from
college and as I felt the importance and significance of
their assuming their new roles in this uncertain world,
I gave a great deal of thought to the matter, desiring
to say something which would be encouraging and at the same
time instructive. Letters such as yours make me feel that
I succeeded and that the result was well worth any effort
I may have put into it.
In accordance with your request, I am enclosing
copies of the address, x am happy to know that you feel
it of sufficient merit to be of interest to your sons in
Korea — nothing could make me feel more pleased.
Sincerely yours,

M. S. Sccles.
