DEPUTY MANAGER

April 8, 194-6

The Honorable Marriner S. Eccles, Chairman
Board of Governors of the Federal
Reserve System
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. Chairman:
I want to congratulate you on the fine talk
you gave The Graduate School last Saturday night. It
is the kind of doctrine that should be given the bankers*
groups all over the country, and I wish that you were
in a position to do it yourself.
There are too many bankers who feel that the
same views are only expressed by people outside of our
business and who are not too sympathetic to our interests.
It would be far better for banking if more of our leaders
would take the initiative in urging, for example, no
further reduction in taxes rather than indirectly or by
inference approving tax relief.
Yours was a fine, courageous talk, and I am
glad I had the opportunity of hearing you.
