My dear Sir H e r ewi th in behalf of The Commercial Club of Bosto n The Merchants Club, I present to y o u our most cordial invitation to address The Commercial Club of Boston The Merchants Club and the Beacon Society at a joint m e eti ng to be held in B o s t o n at such date b e tw een Monday, February 4th and Saturday, February 23rd as m a y suit your convenience. I do not need to suggest that the matters now under consideration and de termina tion in Washi ngt on affecting the business and the financés of the country are matters of mo s t absorbing interest and concern to N e w England. The Clubs wh ich intend to h ol d a joint m e e tin g in F e b rua ry and wh ich together will comprise an audience of approximately two h u n dred. will, I venture to say, be representative of the b est financial and business brains of New England. The joint meetings w hich have bee n held occasionally during the last thirty year s are held at the Alg onquin Club, Boston, and, after dinner, have been ad dre sse d by m a n y of the business leaders of the U n i ted States. It is a happy anticipation on the part of Mr. Fort, • president of the Beac on Society, and m yse l f that we m a y be able to signalize the joint meet ing of 1935 b y the presence of and an address b y y o u r sel f whose appoint ment h a s been greeted w i t h such favor and whose m atured conclusions u p o n matters now at issue in Was h i n g t o n are of such vital concern to the financial world. I can assure y o u of a most eager and appreciative audience, a pro fou nd respect b y that audience for w h a tev er y ou ma y see fit to say and a very great influence u p o n the New En g l a n d v i e w of the problems whic h no w affect the country. It is an invariable rule of our meetings that no reporters are present and that no statements are furnished or available to the newspapers.
