Hon. Marriner S. Ecoles
Chairman, Federal Reserve Board
Washington, D. C.
Dear Mr. Eccles:
It gives me a great deal of pleasure to extend to you
the invitation of the officers and committee of the Harvard
Business School Club of New York to be our guest at our next
dinner meeting, which will be held at the Harvard Club of New
York on December 19th or 20th.
In view of the widespread interest in your appointment
as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, it is quite unnecessary
for me to assure you thpt our group will receive with genuine
enthusiasm any message you may care to bring us. The attendance
at our meetings is usually about 500, consisting, as you realize,
of alumni of the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration
and their guests. Since many of our members are engaged in banking,
we should particularly value a discussion of your views on financial
problems.
Vie shall be glad to have you select either of the two dates
I have mentioned, or choose an entirely different date if you pre
fer. We will assure you in advance of the full cooperation of our
committee in making the evening an enjoyable one for you, and I
hope soon to have word from you that you can be with us.
Sincerely yours,

Dutee Hall/ph

Mr, Dutee Hall, President,
Harvard Business School Club
of New York,
29 W. 44th Street,
New York, New York,
Dear Mr, Hall:
Referring to your letter of December 20th,
suggesting dates on which Mr. Marriner Eccles might
appear before the Harvard Business School Club of
New York, inasmuch as Mr. Eccles expects to appear
in Boston on February 16th and will be in New York
for a few days following that date, he feels that
February 19th would be the best date for him to
accept your kind invitation.
Kindly advise me if this is agreeable to
you and advise me the time and place of his appearance.
Very truly yours,

Secretary to Mr. M, S, Eccles,

We were very much pleased to have the encouragement
you gave our committee in your letter of December 5, in
which you suggested we might have you as our guest at the
Harvard Club of New York in January or February.
Accordingly we wish to ask your consideraticn of the
following dates in these two months:
January 17, 22 and 31
February 19, 26 and 28
These are not the only dates available, but perhaps
one or more of them will meet your convenience.

Dear Mr. Hall:
I appreciate the invitation extended me by
the officers and the committee of the Harvard Busi
ness School Club of Hew York to be the guest at their
next dinner meeting, which is to be held at the Harvard
Club of New York on December 19th or 20th*
As the demands made upon my time at present
are so great, it will be impossible for me to accept
a speaking engagement this month. However, later on,
possibly in January or February, it may be a more
opportune time and if your club would care to get in
touch with me at some later date, I will be very glad
to arrange to accept such an invitation if possible*
Sincerely yours,

Mr. Dutee Hall, President,
Harvard Business School Club of New York,

Accordingly, I have notified our officers and
committee in charge, and we shall be very glad to wait
on you at the Club that evening at 6:30 for a reception
and dinner, to be followed by a meeting.
I hope these arrangements will be agreeable to
you. If you desire to make any change, or if there is

Mr. Dutee Hall, President,
Harvard Business School Club,
29 W. 44th Street,
New York, New York,
Dear Mr. Hall:
With reference to my appearance before your
club on February 19th, this is to advise you that I do
not wish any publicity whatever on the matter and if
possible I prefer not having any reporters present at
the meeting. My reason for this is that I have already
had, in my opinion, too much publicity on banking and
other matters.
I trust you will find it agreeable to comply
with my wishes.
Sincerely yours,

M. S, Eccles,
Governor.

Mr. M. S. Eocles
Governor, Federal Reserve Board
Washington, D. C.
Dear Mr. Eccles:
I have just received word from your secretary
that you desire as little publicity as possible in connec
tion with your appearance before our group next Tuesday
evening. I am glad to tell you that no announcements have
been sent to newspapers, and that our committee has agreed,
in view of your request, that no reporters shall be invited.
Following our usual custom of having some
member of the Harvard faculty to represent the School at
our gatherings, we have invited for this occasion J. Franklin
Ebersole, Professor of Finance, who will be the only other
speaker.
We have also taken the liberty of throwing open
our meeting to members of the Harvard Club as, after all, it
is in their club house that the gathering is to be held. It
is expected that about 200 members of the Harvard Club will
attend, and that with our own members the total number will
be about 600 or 700.
We trust that all these arrangements will be
agreeable, and we assure you once more of our willingnes s
to keep the publioity at an absolute minimum. We are look
ing forward with a great deal of pleasure to having you with
us.
Sincerely yours,

Dutee Hall/ph

New York, New York,
Dear Mr. Hall:
Mr, Eccles has asked me to thank you for your
cooperation regarding his desire that there be no
publicity in connection with his appearance befbre
your club on February 19th,
He has also asked me to advise you that he
is bringing with him his assistant, Mr. Lawrence Clayton.
Mr. Clayton attended the Harvard Law School for three
years, receiving his degree in 1917. Mr. Eccles, of
course, would appreciate it if it could be arranged for
Mr. Clayton to attend the dinner in the evening at which
he is to be the speaker,
Mr. Eccles and Hr, Clayton will be staying at
the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Hew York and if it would not
inconvenience you, you might leave a message at the
referred to hotel, advising them whether or not it will
be agreeable with you for Mr. Clayton to be in attendance
at the dinner.
Very truly yours,

Secretary to Mr. M, S. Eccles.
