Hon. Marriner S. Eccles,
Federal Reserve System,
Washington, D. C.
My dear Mr. Eccles:
Your office gave me a copy of your
presentation of the banking situation to the Bankers
Convention in New Orleans, and I received by mail a
copy of the presentation made by Mr. Harper Sibley,
President of the Chamber of Commerce of the United
States. I have read both and I think they disclose
the line of discrimination definitely.
it was a great pleasure to have your
personal views of the monetary policy of the country,
particularly as it will ooerate under the banking act
of 1935.
In nor judgment it would be a very
valuable thing if you would come to this center of the
agricultural district and present the monetary policy,
and especially as it will be in effect under the legis
lation recently enacted.
I know many others would be
glad to have you do this and I would be pieased to make
arrangements for a public meeting here if you can find
the time to come. If you will advise me as to this, we
can arrange such meeting as you would be pleased to have.
By this I mean, a general public meeting, one by invita
tion, or a group interest.
Awaiting your reply, I am

Mr. Howard «i Clark,
500 Crocker Building,
Des Moines, Iowa.
My dear Mr. Clark:
I have your letter of December 5th and
am glad to know that you had an opportunity to read 6ver
what was said by Mr. Sibley and by myself at the American
Bankers convention in New Orleans and to form your own
opinion-of-the different viewpoints expressed.
I appreciate your suggestion and kind offer
to arrange for a public or group meeting and while I cannot
at this time tell when it might be possible, I hope to be in
the toest and to have an opportunity to stop off at Des Moines
when I pay a visit, as I intend to do, to various Federal
reserve banks. In that event, I shall not fail to advise you
and take advantage of your suggestion, which I very much
appreciate.
Sincerely yours,

M. S. Eccles,
Chairman.
