O F DALLAS
April 1, 1939

Honorable Marriner S. Eccles, Chairman
Board of Governors of the
Federal Reserve System
Washington, D. C.
Dear Mr. Eccles$
I take this opportunity, as chairman of
the board of directors of the Dallas bank, to extend
to you an invitation to visit Dallas and this bank
and branches, if possible, during the annual conven
tion of the Texas Bankers Association -which will be
held from May 16 to May 18, inclusive. I know that
the Texas bankers would feel highly honored and that
your visit would be appreciated and greatly bene
ficial to the System.
In the event you accept the invitation,
we will try to make your visit as pleasant as possible.
Resp ectfully,

April 11, 1939.
D e a r M r. M e r r i t t :
its I have been out of town over the weekend, I have
been somewhat delayed in answering your kind letter of iipril 1
inviting me to visit Dallas, and possibly the branches of the
Reserve Bank during the annual convention of the Texas Bankers
Association from May l£ to May 18.

I have long intended to take advantage of the first
opportunity to visit the Dallas Bank, as I have some of the
others, and it has been a source of regret to me that the oppor
tunity has been so long unavoidably delayed. However, I hope to
be able to come to the bank during the convention and possibly
arrange to visit the Houston Branch also. I have tentatively
accepted the invitation of the Texas Bankers Association with
the understanding that I will advise them definitely the first
week in kay.
At this time I think it would be premature for me to
fix any definite time because so many pressing matters are pend
ing here that, as usual, I find myself obliged to make the ac
ceptance of invitations contingent upon my being able to get
away. Accordingly, I had better advise you somewhat later,
possibly a week before leaving here in case that is not too late
for you, as to what my schedule is likely to be.
In the meantime, I wanted you to know that 1 very much
appreciated your courtesy.
Sincerely yours,

M. S. Eccles,
Chairman.

Mr. J. H. Merritt,
Chairman of the Board,
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas,
Dallas, Texas.
