Dear Beardsley;
Thank you for your commentary on ray recent reply
to Senator Byrd. I am particularly gratified to have
your favoraole opinion of this effort.
My idea, of course, was not that 1 could convert
the Senator, but that tne stirring up of controversy
and discussion would be cu_l to tne good, especially at
this time, while my reply attracted more attention than
then it will not have been entirely in vain.
I wanted you to know that I appreciated your t.ioughtfulness in sending me your word of encouragement.
