MITCHELL, CLERK Honorable Marriner S. Eccles Chairman, Federal Reserve Board Washington, D. C. Dear Chairman Eccles: Pursuant to my personal call, I am addressing you in regard to Mr, Charles G. Buckingham, president of the National State Bank of Boulder, Colorado for the past sixty-five years. I am quoting from a letter which I have received from John T. Bartlett, President of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, in which he asks that you address Mr. Buckingham a congratulatory message upon his birthday on April 22: n 0n April 22, Charles G. Buckingham of Boulder will have been President of the National State Bank of this city for sixty-five years—a record unequalled in the annals of American banking. At 939 he is actively at his desk in the bank, and today, and throughout his career, is far more interested in talking about the present and the future of Boulder and the state than of the past. He is a grand citizen, and on the occasion of his sixtyfifth anniversary, we want to contribute to his greatest happiness in the event. "With his brother, he started the private bank of Buckingham Brothers April 22, 1874; this became the National State Bank, charter number 2255> in 1877. The bank today is one of the three largest in the state, outside of Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo; only four banks have a longer history in our state (First National, Colorado National, Denver; First National, Pueblo; First National, Longmont). "Any cooperation you can give us in this will be deeply appreciated. Mr. Buckingham and his institution have had a wonderful record, through the years. No depositor has ever lost a penny. The bank weathered the panics of 1893, 1907, and 1933, without batting an eyelash, so to speak.n I deeply appreciate your assurance of compliance with this request. Sincerely yonrs ECJ:ER:K April 15, 1959* My dear Senator: [Enclosed is a copy of a letter which, thanks to your reminder, I have forwarded to Mr* Charles Gr.
