V/e w r o in a Board meeting this morning when the
item over the ticker case through announcing your appointment to the Supreme Court, and while we wore all aware
that this was likely to happen, nav that it ia an accomplished fact I isaat to record the unanimous enthusiasm
with which it was received. There is, however, one large
fly in the ezaber* Tou have alleys been a faithful and
interested friend in the Senate and Z am personally
greatly grieved on that aocoont to have you put on the
judicial robes* I could, but will not, nention soae of
your ersttthile colleagues in the Senate mhos I could
spare from that body without regret, though they isould
not ornament the Court a* you will any store than they have
the Senate*
On your account I rejoice in this aplendid
recognition which has ease to you and, needless to add,
you have oy Boat earnest good wishes for your continued
health, happineas and eervice to the country*
