Eccles Shoreham Hotel Washington, D. C. Dear Governor Eccles: Congratulations on your speech on "Government Spending'over the air which I read in Wednesday^ paper. A business associate and I were discussing the question recently, each taking an opposite but moderate stand. Your talk helped very much to clarify my own thoughts, similar to yours, which were sown but not cultivated by that communistic seat of learning - Harvard. Particularly interesting was the rise in our national income during the period of government spending, 1933-6 I believe. Interesting too, was the "frontier" thought. Realizing that this country has reached a period of maturity, both of us recently resigned good positions to attack the problem by promoting improvements in standardized processes. The immediate result is introduction of a product which makes waxing and polishing cars as backward as a log cabin. May I "call" you on your interest in breaking the frontier and enclose a folder briefly describing Poreelainize? It is very little known here; better known North and West. I will not attempt to contact you about the product, but would welcome very much an opportunity of explaining it to you at your convenience, I know that you are a very busy man. y ours, Ian Aver February 2, 1939 Mr. Gilfillan Avery 1705 L Street, N. w.
