Q.

I an Japanese;

what do I do with my property7

A.

Dispose of it yourself if you can on a reasonable basis,
or if you cannot, you should select someone in whom
you repose confidence to act for you in your absence
under a power of attorney.

Q.. Do you mean another Japanese?

No, because al\ Japanese will be evacuated regardless of
birthplace.

Q.

I do not know any person that I could select as my agent.

A.

Have you considered your bank or your attorney> or the
land owner or any person with whom you have been
doing business and in whom you have confidence?

Q,, There is no one I would be willing to give such a power
to. Would you become my agent?
A.

We will be glad to give it consideration if, after complete
investigation, it appears that a useful purpose would
be served and you would have sor.e equity to protect.
This would not be so in the case of insolvency.

Q.

Is a power of attorney, alon^, sufficient?

A.

No, you should supplement it with definite instructions
to your agent as to th<= disposition of your property.
You can continue to contact him by correspond en CP
after evacuation for any subsequent dealings.

I own a restaurant;

A,

If you can obtain an agent to operate it for you, it may
be run by him.

Will you accept such an agency?

A.

I t WDUld be p o s s i b l e f o r u s t o do so but not p r a c t i c a b l e
i n an o p e r a t i o n such a s t h i s .

not be in a position to operate specialized businesses
such as t h i s or novelty stores, e t c . , although in
certain things, we could continue operation, such
as in the case of real estate properties including
hotels where operating agents could be obtained.)

I am a produce merchant,, and I finance a number of the
growers who in turn assign their a crops to me, and
I sell the crops and pay then th residue. Cam I
assign these accounts receivable?

A.

Yes, you can assign and s e l l a l l accounts receivable as
well as any other asset.

Q.

Is there any limit as to the amount and character of
property I can take with me?

A.

No, if you l^av= voluntarily, you may move at your own
expense any property you desire to take with you.

Q« What if I don't leave voluntarily?
A.

If you wait to be evacuated by the Army, they will determine what goods you may tak^ with you.

Q.

Do I have to use your power of attorney form in selecting
my own agent?

A.

You should make whatever arrangements are satisfactory to
both parties,
but you should b° sure that the form
you USQ will carry sufficient authority to your ag^nt
so that third parties willnot question i t . However,
if the Federal Reserve Bank consents to act as your
agent, the power of attorney must be on our form.

Q,. Can I form a corporation to operate my property in my
absence?
A.

Yes, as long as it is operated by people who can lawfully
remain in the area*

A.

Yes.

Yes, you can. This entire program is voluntary on the
part of the ^vacuep and no disposition whatsoever of
his assets need be made except far his own protection.

the a r ^ a t o s u p e r v i s e my p r o p e r t i e s ?

A.

We do n o t know of any arrangements t h a t have been made for
such e n t r y , but obviously i f t h ^ r e - i r e they w i l l be
under military supervision*

The firm from which I bought a refrigerator is threatening to take i t back although a l l my payments are up
to date.

A*

If you will give us the f a c t s , we will be glad to investigate and do viiat we can t o protect you if you have an
equity.

Should I transfer my bank account to a bank in th* t e r r i tory in which I am going to liv«?

A*

You are fre«* to transfer your account. Whether you l~-ave
i t with your present bank or transfer i t to ^.noth^r
is a matter for your discretion as you s t i l l have
all th° privileges und^r G^n^ral Licenses issued
under Executive Order No« 8389, ^v^n though you are
about t o evacuate.

such as a responsible realtor and give the necessary
