Mr. Thurston Mrs. Cooke in the office Deputy Governor
Wells, Farm Credit Administration, called and said
that she had talked to Miss Poteet in the office of
Mr. 0. V. Wells, Chief of the Bureau of Agricultural
Economics, and that she said she would substitute the
copy of the Memorandum on Economic Outlook for the
transcript of Mr. E* s talk before the Conference
on the 7th - and that if there was any question as to
authority for doing it, or if they wanted a wformal1*
request, Miss Poteet would get in touch with you by
telephone*

Mr. Thurston The request -we received from Dr. Allen,
Office of -the Chief, Dept, of Agricultural Economics
is rather a large one I talked to his secretary (Miss Rutherford)
this afternoon. They would like very much to have
50 copies, for distribution to their field people she said that they will no doubt "re-reproduce" it
for they will need even additional copies - she
said all the talks will eventually be printed in
their "regular Outlook issues* and that copies as
made available by us would be helpful in that they
would not need further okeh by Mr. Eccles. Otherwise,
the transcript of the talks given yesterday would be
sent to the individual speakers for editing ahd.
approval.
Miss Rutherford asked that * call her when
copies are available - and tell her at thUit^time
Don’t
•whether we can make available
see why not.

Mr. Thurston I hate to bother you so often - but the
newsmen are pestering me - the latest question
oomes fl*om Mr, Royster sho says that the fact
that the memorandum does not identify itself with
Mr. Eooles confuses him - is it our intention
that it should not be identified, and if not,
whose views does it represent. That I couldn’t
answer. Of course most of them know that the
memorandum represent Mr. Eccles remarls at the
/Agriculture Outlook Conference. What do I tell
/Mr, Royster and others who inquire?

Mr. Thurston Mr. Mann of Pratt’s letter called and would
like to have your okeh, (or disapproval), as soon
as possible of his mentioning or rather suggesting
in his letter, which goes to press at noon today,
that everyone wiite in for a copy of the Memorandum
on Economic Outlook, which he considers excellent
n its clarity. He realizes we may receive^ many
equests (in the hundreds) and if you feel that
he requests would be too burdensome he will
nderstand - and not make the suggestion.

i

Could you indioate yes or no - and 1*11 call
r. Mann back.
