2010-12-15 G Cohen Letter to Jackson re Use of Quotes.pdf

Revise the quote as follows:

At the Department of Housing and Urban Development, “we began to get rumors” that ....  firms
were “running wild, taking applications over the Internet, not verifying peoples’ income or their
ability to have a job,” recalled Alphonso Jackson, the HUD secretary from 2004 to 2008, in an
interview with the Commission. “Everybody was making a great deal of money. . . and there
wasn’t a great deal of oversight going on.”

RATHER THAN

At the Department of Housing and Urban Development, “we began to get rumors” that
“Ameriquest” and other firms were “running wild, taking applications over the Internet, not
verifying peoples’ income or their ability to have a job,” recalled Alphonso Jackson, the HUD
secretary from 2004 to 2008, in an interview with the Commission. “Everybody was making a
great deal of money. . . and there wasn’t a great deal of oversight going on.”

Mr.Cohen,
Thank you for sending your letter of December 15,2010 respecting the possible use of Secretary
Jackson's quote set forth in that letter. The Secretary grants permission to use the quote as it
stands, save for the reference to "Ameriquest".Accordingly, any reference to "Ameriquest" should and
must be stricken from the record. Upon further recollection as my client had the opportunity to examine
his statement and reflect on occurrences that admittedly transpired sometime ago,he has come to the
conclusion that " Ameriquest:" wasn't the company ,in that context,to which he was alluding. Many
apologies for any confusion caused or miscommunication engendered in the Q&A.Happy Holidays to
all.
