RE: Use of Director Mueller Quote
Wednesday, December 22, 2010 6:12:48 PM

Sarah,
Thanks for the opportunity to review the quote the Commission would like to use in its report.
We’ve considered the quote in the context of the full interview and would like to recommend the
edits reflected below. We believe both edits more accurately reflect the Director’s statements
during the interview. I’m heading out for the holiday, but I’ve copied Stephen Kelly and James
Koukios here. They will both be available tomorrow in the event you have any questions. Thanks
and happy holiday.

Robert Mueller, FBI director since 2001, said that mortgage fraud needed to be considered “in
context of other priorities,” such as terrorism preventing future terrorist attacks. He told the
Commission that “we requested additional resources for the white collar criminal program; we got
some resources but did not get what we had requested.” he asked for more resources to fight
fraud but “we didn’t get what we requested.” from the Office of Management and Budget, the
Justice Department and Congress.
