VREEutlU), Edward (Papers)

February 20, 1956

Dr. Roland Baughman of Columbia University called today concerning the papers
of Edward Vreeland, -which were said by his son to have gone to Columbia in
1936. Dr. Baughmsn has had all official correspondence of the University for
that period searched and has been able to turn up no evidence that the papers
actually did go to Columbia.
He said it was possible, though highly improbable, that a professor could have
served as intermediaiy and absorbed the Vreeland papers into his own papers,
thereby leaving no official record. This, he said, was extremely unlikely.
He suggested that perhaps; Vreeiand's son confused Columbia with another
New York institution - e.g. N.I.U., The New York Public Library, The New
York Historical Society (this latter unlikely).
At any rate, there is no record of the papers having been sent to or received
by Columbia.
